Song of the Future concerto for building and choir
The work is an artistic manifesto of new urbanism: building an accessible, diverse city friendly to all residents and implementing environmental changes to prevent climate catastrophe. The Komuna Warszawa Theatre focuses on the specific example of the “Socio-Cultural Quarter 29–31 Emilii Plater St,” a green enclave and a unique space in the centre of Warsaw. On the site of the former pomological garden, the plot features two school buildings that are excellent examples of postwar modernism in Polish architecture. For almost a decade, they stood unused. In the past four years, the former primary school has been home to the Komuna Warszawa Theatre. This social cultural centre organises more than 150 events every year and is one of the most important addresses for independent culture in Warsaw. The future of this project is uncertain; Song of the Future is a manifesto in defence against destruction and for the realisation of the potential of this space.
The work was premiered on 14 April 2024 as part of the “New European Bauhaus” Festival. At the 10th edition of the Architectural Competition of the Mayor of the City of Warsaw, the “Quarter” project won the residents’ prize.
