Black MIDI (impossible music, dark MIDI) describes a peculiar music type or niche phenomenon in digital space, whose popularity is mainly limited to online communities. It is characterised by an extremely large number of MIDI events, which results in a very dense musical pattern. The resulting MIDI files are typically intensely filled with notes, which produces a visual effect like that of an almost entirely black page.

Black MIDI is often viewed as a challenge to the technical skills of artists and the capabilities of music software. The density of notes and intensity of events leads to a data overload (ChatGPT).
