Born in 1991 in Zagreb, Croatian composer. She studied composition at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb in the class  of Davorin Kempf, and later earned her BA and MA degree in  composition at the State High School of Music and Performing  Arts in Stuttgart in the class of Martin Schüttler. She has won  numerous international prizes, including the Kranichsteiner  Musikpreis at the Summer Courses in Darmstadt (2018), Ivo  Vuljević Prize, Neue Szenen V opera competition organised by  Berlin’s Deutsche Oper, Erste Bank Composers Award in Vienna  (2011), Ernst von Siemens Foundation’s Förderpreis (2023), City  of Stuttgart Composition Award (2024), SWR Orchesterpreis for  DING, DONG, DARLING! (Donaueschingen Festival 2024),  and German Music Authors’ Award (GEMA) – Emerging Artists  (2025). In 2019 she held a scholarship of the Baden–Württemberg  Art Foundation. Her works are published by the Berlin-based  publisher Edition Juliane Klein.

Her artistic practice engages with pop culture, its aesthetic  and socio-political implications, nostalgia, collective memory,  the extensive network of pop-cultural data and its by-products  arising through their juxtaposition. Her works include orchestral and chamber music, as well as video works, multimedia and  multisensory installations. They have been performed worldwide by leading ensembles such as Ensemble Musikfabrik, Neue  Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Trio Catch, Sarah Maria Sun, Dirk Rothbrust, Ensemble Mimitabu, The Black Page Orchestra, Croatian  Radio Symphony Orchestra, and many others, at festivals such  as ECLAT in Stuttgart, Huddersfield, Ultraschall in Berlin, Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik, Showroom of Contemporary  Sound, and Music Biennale in Zagreb. Her opera Station Paradiso  premieres at the Stuttgart State Opera in 2026.

In addition to her work as a composer, Sara also teaches composition. In her teaching practice, she focuses on the broader  cultural context of music and addresses such topics as cultural  theory, translation, linguistics, as well as intersectional queer and  feminist perspectives.
