Masmondet, Julien
is among the most respected French conductors of his generation, praised for his instinctive musicality, intellectual rigour, and ability to inspire musicians across a wide repertoire. His reputation has been firmly established through the critical acclaim received for innovative concerts and operas performed with Les Apaches!, the ensemble he founded. He enjoys an international career as a guest conductor with leading orchestras including the Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Sinfonia Varsovia, Tonkünstler Orchester, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, New Russia State Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, and orchestras of Teatro di San Carlo and Teatro Filarmonico di Verona. Deeply committed to contemporary creation and imaginative programming, Masmondet regularly commissions and premieres works by living composers while championing lesser-known French repertoire. With Les Apaches!, one of France’s most adventurous ensembles, he develops multidisciplinary projects that connect past and present, cooperating with visual artists, directors, choreographers, writers, and digital creators. Notable projects include Street Art, a live performance filmed by Arte at the Musée d’Orsay, and an immersive Ravel project premiering at the Théâtre du Châtelet in 2025 before touring internationally. His discography includes recordings for Sony Music, Warner Classics, Aparté, Claves, and B Records, earning major critical awards. A dedicated educator, he is Professor of Conducting at the Alfred Cortot École Normale de Musique de Paris.
