Tomasz Sikorski: A Fieldstone by the Road (PWM Edition, 2026)
Meet-the-author event with Jan Topolski

An accursed composer? His generation’s guilty conscience? A lone voice, ahead of his time and misunderstood in his lifetime? Every one of these labels fits Tomasz Sikorski, a singular figure in Polish music in the second half of the twentieth century. He was classed with the sonorists, then filed under minimalism, yet he always seemed to be somewhere else entirely. Obsessed with the ideas of multiplication and reduction, he forged a wholly individual style, recognisable within seconds.

Using his book Tomasz Sikorski: A Fieldstone by the Road as his point of departure, Jan Topolski will bring the composer into focus. He will also describe how the book took shape: a portrait in reportage, built from conversations with Sikorski’s friends and acquaintances, as well as letters, documents, and psychoanalytic readings. Sikorski’s music will accompany the conversation.
