composer, pianist, improviser, and teacher, he graduated from Stanisław Moryto’s composition class and Bronisława Kawalla’s piano class at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where he obtained a PhD and has since 2016 lectured at the Department of Composition and Music Theory of Warsaw’s. 

He has won prizes in numerous national and international piano competitions including in Paris, Athens, and Warsaw, as well as composition competitions in Katowice, Warsaw, Poznań, and Miskolc. For the 2018/19 season he was selected to work with the London Philharmonic Orchestra as part of its Young Composers Programme, which included the world premiere of his composition written for the LPO at London’s Southbank Centre. 

His works have been performed at concerts and festivals in Poland, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Hungary, Estonia, Russia, and Australia. 2019 saw the release of his first monographic CD rough (DUX), comprising chamber music, while in 2020 his mystery play / metaopera De invitatione mortis came out on a 2CD album under the Chopin University Press label. The latter release was nominated for the 2021 Fryderyk Award of the Polish Phonographic Society in the category Album of the Year: Large-Scale Vocal-Instrumental and Operatic Music. Karałow’s other recording projects are: After All (Requiem Records, 2019), a chamber music recital with saxophonist Pablo Sanchez-Escariche Gasch; and Wir (Requiem Records, 2018), electroacoustic improvisations with Jerzy Przeździecki. 

Andrzej Karałow has held scholarships from the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Pro Polonia Society (twice), Rector of the Chopin University of Music, and the Young Poland programme (2015), as well as the Award of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2014).
