Good Luck - Hubert Zemler International Festival of Contemporary Music Warsaw Autumn

go to content

The work is a tribute to Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and his composition Good Night. I took from the original composition some elements of the harmonic spectrum as well as some interval leaps. The structure of the composition is based on modules and draws on the composing tradition of the American minimalists.

The piano and the metallophone (or vibraphone) go through nine successive melodic patterns. The pianist changes their pattern when they hear that the pattern has changed in the metallophone part. The flute comes in with its three interventions independently, with intervals. The duration of the piece depends on the performers’ concept. The piece ends when all patterns of the piano–metallophone duo have been performed.
