RADICAL POLISH ANSAMBL
is where the old ethos of folk musicians meets the most avant-garde ideas of contemporary music. It involves improvisation, research, experimentation, all based on a strong foundation of familiarity with folk performance techniques, learned at the source in direct contact with old masters. The RPA performs traditional music from central Poland in modern arrangements, as well as works by composers inspired by the music of the Polish countryside: Tadeusz Sielanka, Zygmunt Krauze, Sławomir Kupczak, Cezary Duchnowski, and Agnieszka Stulgińska. The ensemble has recorded two CDs: Radical Polish Ansambl (2nd Prize at the Polish Radio competition for Folk Record of the Year, 2019) oraz The Devil’s Fiddle (2020). In cooperation with composers and during concerts, the ensemble minimises the amount of notated score in favour of live performance.
