Drummer and composer, music producer, improviser, author of soundtracks for feature and animated films; graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, where he studied percussion in 1999–2004.
Zemler is a highly regarded contemporary music performer. His repertoire includes such works by 20thand 21st-century composers as Helmut Lachenmann’s AIR (performed with NOSPR Katowice under Alexander Liebreich as part of the 2015 Warsaw Autumn inaugural concert), Steve Reich (Polish premieres of Music for 18 Musicians and Daniel Variations with Kwadrofonik ensemble), Terry Riley (artistic direction on the recording of In C released by Bôłt Records), Per Nørgård, Tadeusz Wielecki, Zygmunt Krauze, Tomasz Sikorski, Cornelius Cardew, Zdzisław Piernik, Arturas Bumšteinas, and many others.
During from his classical music education, Zemler also played in jazz bands, learning the secrets of improvisation and experimental music. At present he is one of the most active drummers in Poland’s improvised, experimental, and free jazz music scenes, sharing the stage with artists representing such different genres as jazz, world music, rock, blues, as well as improvised and electronic music.
Zemler also appears as a soloist, performing and recording his own repertoire as well as improvisations. With Feliks Kubin (as CEL duo) he explores the possibilities of combining acoustic instruments with electronic musical devices. The drummer has also collaborated with artists such as Piotr Kurek, Jon Gibson, John Tilbury, Todd Barton, Ben Frost, Evan Ziporyn, Gyan Riley, Agustí Fernández, Szabolcs Esztényi, Wacław Zimpel, Agata Zubel, Hashtag Ensemble, Mitch & Mitch, Magneto, Opla, and Zemiter.
