Percussionist, pianist, composer, and arranger; graduate of Edward Iwicki and Stanisław Skoczyński’s class at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy (now University) of Music in Warsaw. During his studies, he performed in percussion ensembles such as Young Percussion Studio and Warsaw Percussion Group at major festivals in Poland (Poznań Music Spring, Warsaw Autumn), Russia, and North Korea. He also collaborated with the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw and the Sinfonia Varsovia under such conductors as Krzysztof Penderecki, Jan Krenz, Jerzy Semkow, Emmanuel Krivine, Yehudi Menuhin, and Justus Frantz.
His professional career on the Polish jazz scene started in 1990. He has collaborated with all the major Polish jazz musicians, including Zbigniew Namysłowski, Jarosław Śmietana, Tomasz Stańko, Leszek Możdżer, Wojciech Karolak, Andrzej Kurylewicz, Krzesimir Dębski, Włodek Pawlik, Anna Maria Jopek, Marek Napiórkowski, Krzysztof Herdzin, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Piotr Baron, Piotr Wojtasik, Krzysztof Ścierański, and Adam Bałdych. As leader of his own bands for many years, he recorded three albums: Meeting in Kraków (1995), One Mirror... Many Reflections (2000), and On Classical (2015).
As a session musician, he has taken part in more than 150 album recordings. His accolades include the Mateusz Award of Polish Radio Channel 3 (1993) and the Krzysztof Komeda Scholarship (1993). In 1992‒2016 he was invariably elected best jazz drummer in the Jazz Top polls of the Jazz Forum monthly, in 2006‒9 – best Jazz/Latin/Funk drummer in the readers’ poll of the Top Drummer monthly. In 2014 he won the Eugeniusz Best Jazz/Fusion Drummer Prize, in 2018 – the Polish Drums Award of Perkusista magazine. A 2014 album Night in Calisia with music by Włodek Pawlik, with Konrad’s participation, won the Grammy Award.
The artist has worked with such famous international jazz stars as Pat Metheny, Randy Brecker, Mike Stern, Gregory Porter, Arturo Sandoval, Maria Schneider, Didier Lockwood, Jim Beard, Gary Husband, Mino Cinelu, Karrin Allyson, Joe de Franco, Mike Richmond, and Deborah Brown. Since 2017 he has been a teacher and faculty member at the Department of Jazz and Stage Music of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
