 Bernd Oppl Phantom Power
 exhibition

The exhibition by Austrian artist Bernd Oppl is part of the program of the 68th Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music, whose main theme this year is "Clearing." In his practice, Oppl often works at the intersection of visual art, music, and sound.
At the Austrian Cultural Forum, works from the Phantom Power series will be presented. These sound objects are based on field recordings of optical devices, played back on reel-to-reel tape recorders. Cameras, scanners, electron microscopes, and enlargers are explored for their sonic properties and become the foundation of the compositions. The use of magnetic tape refers to the tradition of electroacoustic music, which has long been part of the Warsaw Autumn program.
Also on view is the series Helle Kammern, sculptural objects cast from the interiors of photographic cameras. The titular "clearing" appears in Oppl’s work both literally and metaphorically: as a beam of light, but also as a form of energy breaking through darkness. Organiser: Austrian Cultural Forum
