One of the most significant spectral works of the 20th century, composed between 1990 and 1995. The quartet consists of 29 miniature movements, each based on selected harmonics and bearing a title inspired by Taoist philosophy and the idea of cosmic origins. Rădulescu employs microtonal scordatura, natural harmonics, extended bowing techniques, and alternative notation to create music of remarkable density and intensity. Sound becomes both a physical and spiritual phenomenon, and the quartet unfolds as a meditation on resonance, time, and existence.
