Sketchbook - Michael Hope
Sketchbook is a space in which every constituent element that enters it is contextualised and presented through a prism of play and playfulness.
Sketchbook recognises the concert experience as an inherently playful one; a mimetic space which plays out towards a necessarily autotelic conclusion.
In Sketchbook, participants take on particular “roles” as performers; they play games; they play videos; they play recordings; they play to win; they play both real and fictional characters; they even play instruments.
The participants in Sketchbook are required to follow the rules of the space, yet at the same time it is imperative that they retain their freedom to play within the confines of this space. They are neither forced nor coerced into involuntary actions, but it is nevertheless essential that they play by the rules of the space in order to be playing at all.
The Sketchbook participants will guide you through the playground of playful ideas, and we encourage you to approach and engage yourselves within this space in as playful a manner as can be evoked.
Sketchbook is a space for play.
Thank you and welcome to Sketchbook.
