go to content

(they/them, she/her) is a Berlin-based composer with a particular  interest in experimental sound research in the analog world, spatial and transdisciplinary formats, cooperation and links between  music practice and social, natural, technical, urban, domestic and  media environments. Many of their works are in the field of artistic research or incorporate influences from sociology and queer  studies.

Eloain studied composition in Cologne, Dresden and Oslo and  holds a Master’s degree from the Giessen Institute for Applied  Theatre Studies. Their cooperation with dramaturge Maria Huber  and scenographer Jade J. Boeckh (as the paranormal φeer group)  as well as with other artists from (almost) all disciplines has led  to numerous inter/transdisciplinary productions at theatres  and festivals in Germany, France, Switzerland, and Italy. These  include immersive sound/space concepts, an online installation, durationals, music theatre for children, a theory opera in game show format, participatory formats, and projects with  amateurs.

Eloain has cooperated with renowned ensembles including  Ensemble Modern, Decoder, Lange//Berweck//Lorenz, Klangforum, airborne extended, Schallfeld, Lemniscate, Proton, eeek,  Kompopolex, Spółdzielnia Muzyczna, HANATSUmiroir, Arditti  Quartet, and Concrète [Lab]. Eloain maintains particularly close  ties with AuditivVokal Dresden, where they served as composer-in-residence in 2023. The solo album n.o.t.i.o.n.s (2023)  and the live solo programme Back on Stage (2024) gave rise to  a unique composer-performer practice on instruments that they  (in the classical sense) “cannot play.”

Teaching assignments at interdisciplinary interfaces have taken  Eloain to music colleges, theatre academies, and TransArts  programmes. Eloain curated the Musik 21 Festival in Lower  Saxony (2021–24) and is involved in a wide range of cultural  policy activities. In 2026, the portrait album crunch was released  in the prestigious Edition Zeitgenössische Musik series, and  the book Structuring Queering [?] the World: On Compositional  Thinking in More-Than-Musical Contexts was published by Wolke  Verlag. Awards include the Composition Prize of the State Capital of Stuttgart, the Bremen Composer’s Prize, the Deutscher  Musikautor*innenpreis, as well as residencies in Germany,  France, the United States, and Canada. Eloain’s complete works  are published exclusively by Topus Musikverlag, Berlin.
