studied flute in Detmold with Richard Müller-Dombois and in  Paris with Philippe Racine. In 2001 she cofounded Ensemble  Reflexion K, a chamber ensemble specialising in contemporary  music, based in Eckernförde, a Baltic resort in Schleswig-Holstein. As a soloist and chamber musician, she performs throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia. She also gives masterclasses  and workshops in new flute repertoire and contemporary performance techniques across these regions.  

Her work is documented in numerous radio and CD recordings, produced in association with nearly every German publicservice broadcaster. Her two solo albums, positions (2003) and  Spiegelungen (2011), both created in association with the Bavarian  Radio, were warmly received by critics, who praised her boldness  in pushing boundaries, both sonically and in her programming. Wagner has appeared regularly as a featured performer at  the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival. There, in 2024,  she gave the world premiere of Gerald Eckert’s Verschränkung –  ins Offene for contrabass flute, electronics and tape. In 2022 she  gave the world premiere of ferne Tiefe, Eckert’s work for contrabass flute, orchestra, live electronics and tape, written specially for  her. In autumn 2026, she is due to appear as soloist in Córdoba,  Argentina, in the world premiere of a new concerto for bass flute  and orchestra by Pablo Araya, likewise composed for her.

Wagner and the composer Gerald Eckert are joint artistic directors of the Provinzlärm festival and the concert series Neue Musik  Eckernförde.
