Sikora, Elżbieta
Born in 1943 in Lviv, she graduated from the Sound Engineering Department of Warsaw’s State High School of Music in 1968. In 1968–70 she studied electroacoustic music with Pierre Schaeffer and François Bayle at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales in Paris. On her return to Warsaw, she completed her composition studies with Tadeusz Baird and Zbigniew Rudziński. Together with Krzysztof Knittel and Wojciech Michniewski, she founded the KEW composers’ group. As a French government scholarship holder, she took part in a computer music course at IRCAM and studied composition with Betsy Jolas in Paris. A scholarship from the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York made it possible for her to study computer music with John Chowning at Stanford University’s CCRMA. She has received numerous accolades as a composer. She has resided in France since 1981 but continues to maintain regular contacts with Poland. In 2011–17 she was the artistic director of the Musica Electronica Nova Festival in Wrocław. Her compositions, available from PWM Edition, have been performed worldwide; many of them have been released on record.
