Khomenko, Yasia (Iaroslava-Mariia Khomenko)
costume and fashion designer, illustrator and visual artist. Born in 1988 in Kyiv, in 2010 she graduated from the Kyiv National Institute of Technology and Design. She has participated in numerous fashion shows, exhibitions and festivals including Origin Passion and Believes (Vicenza, 2013), Fashion Scout (London, 2013), International Fashion Showcase (IFS) during the London Fashion Week (2015), and OneTimeShow (Shanghai, 2015). She has won awards at fashion festivals including Harper’s Bazaar Fashion Forward (Ukraine, 2013) and Cosmopolitan UA, where she won the title of best designer (2016). She has also led activities in Poland, participating in the Eastern Voyage exhibition at Białystok’s Arsenał Gallery as well as her own project (with Ukrainian visual artist Hamlet) Kontrabanda, shown at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art. In 2011, she created her brand RCR KHOMENKO, and in 2019, the XOMENKO project. In the last decade, her research has focused on upcycling. In 2022, she held a crisis residency at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, within the Artistic Residencies programme. Her latest project used clothes and textiles from humanitarian aid to reflect the idea of reconstruction, which will follow the destruction caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
