CHOPIN UNIVERSITY BIG BAND
consists of graduates and students of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. The band leader and artistic director is Piotr Kostrzewa. Since its establishment in 2006, the band has participated in many artistic projects, including five times at La Folle Journée Festival in Nantes and four times at its Warsaw edition. It has also appeared in the Jazz Jamboree Festival, Classica Nova, Podlasie Jazz Festival, and the Šiauliai Big Band Festival, as well as at special concerts such as the Oscars gala on Canal+, 50th anniversary of Jazz Forum, Five o’Clock on Polish Radio Channel 2, and the centenary of Frank Sinatra on Polish Radio Channel 3. It has recorded several CDs, including a guest appearance on Basia Trzetrzelewska’s album.
The band has twice been awarded the Nowy Tomyśl Big Band Festival Grand Prix, and was also one of the stars of the Summer with Radio Festival in 2019 and 2021. The Chopin University Big Band also performed at the final concert of the 63rd Warsaw Autumn Festival.
The Chopin University Big Band has performed with renowned artists such as Basia Trzetrzelewska, Krzesimir Dębski, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Adam Sztaba, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Gordon Goodwin, Grupa MoCarta, Kuba Badach, Janusz Szrom, Łukasz Lipski, Sławek Uniatowski, Agnieszka Wilczyńska, Daniela Bereza, Vivian Buczek, Natalia Kukulska, Katarzyna Cerekwicka, Łukasz Zagrobelny, Ryszard Rynkowski, Danuta Błażejczyk, Wojciech Myrczek, Monika Borzym, Andrzej Dąbrowski, and Urszula Dudziak. In 2022, it was invited to participate in the Jazz Outsider documentary directed by Janusz Majewski. Since 2022 the Chopin University Big Band has taken part in the Sinatra 100+ performance at the 6th Floor Theatre; in October 2023 accompanied the participants of Voice of Poland. 2024 saw the release of their new album, published by the Polish Radio Music Agency and Chopin University Press, with music and a guest appearance by Henryk Miśkiewicz.
