Scroccaro, Claudia
An Italian composer who studied composition and electronic music with Marco Stroppa on a DAAD scholarship at the High School of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart, while simultaneously attending masterclasses taught by Philippe Leroux and Franck Bedrossian. Based in Paris, she teaches formalszation (reducing music material to formal structures), computer-aided and electronic composition at IRCAM.
Her music oscillates between two extreme temporalities, alternating between overflowing rhythms derived from music of oral tradition and immersive, introspective explorations interwoven with the expressiveness of the spoken voice. She is currently a Fellow of the Villa Medici in Rome.
Her music has been performed internationally at such new music festivals as IRCAM ManiFeste, Donaueschinger Musiktage, ECLAT, and Der Sommer in Stuttgart, among others, by ensembles such as Musikfabrik, SWR Vokalensemble, Linea, Talea, Ascolta, 2e2m, as well as soloists such as Johanna Vargas, Florentin Ginot, and Jana Luksts.
