Płociński, Dominik
A cellist, soloist and chamber musician born in 1989, winner of the 2nd Prize and special awards in the 9th Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition in Warsaw, “Concert of the Year” 2013, finalist of the EBU’s New Talent 2014 competition, scholarship holder of the Young Poland 2016 programme. Currently the second principal cellist in the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw.
As a soloist, he has performed the greatest cello masterpieces with, among others, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish and Slovak Radio Orchestras, Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra, Opole Philharmonic, and AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, under such conductors as Marek Pijarowski, Rastislav Štur, Marek Moś, Kai Bumann, Wojciech Semerau-Siemianowski, and Rafał Janiak.
Prize winner and finalist of many national and international competitions, apart from the above-mentioned accolades he has also won prizes in the4th David Popper International Cello Competition in Várpalota (Hungary), Kazimierz Wiłkomirski International Youth Cello Competition in Poznań, and Stanisław Hajzer National Bach Competition in Zielona Góra.
An active chamber musician, he won critical and audience acclaim playing in a duo with pianist Paweł Arendt (2011–14). In 2013 he co-founded Herbert Piano Trio (with violinist Joanna Kreft and pianist Bartłomiej Wezner, under the auspices of Herbert Foundation), which reached the semi-finals of major European chamber music competitions in Weimar and Trieste, and performed, among others, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Triple Concerto (with Opole Philharmonic Orchestra under Kai Bumann, 2018). Płociński is also a member of the Warsaw CELLONET Group and Hashtag Ensemble, Polish ensembles specialising in contemporary music, which takes up a major part of his artistic schedule. With these ensembles, the artist is regularly invited to perform at major music festivals, such as the Warsaw Autumn, Festival of Premieres – Polish Modern Music in Katowice, Contrasts Lviv, KODY / CODES in Lublin, Artus Jazz Festival, and the Poznań Music Spring.
