Popławska, Aleksandra
An actress at TR Warszawa in 2000–7 and again since 2018, she graduated from the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts (now AST National Academy of Theatre Arts), Wrocław branch. She debuted as Halina and Zipporah in The Magician of Lublin (dir. Jan Szurmiej, Wrocław Operetta 1998). She has appeared in numerous Polish dramatic theatres, including Wrocław’s Polski, Warsaw’s Powszechny and Dramatyczny, as well as Kalisz’s Bogusławski Theatre.
She has received numerous awards for her roles, including Tania in The Fourth Sister (dir. Agnieszka Glińska, Polski Theatre Wrocław, at the 2nd “Represented Reality” Festival of Contemporary Drama in Zabrze), Varya in The Cherry Orchard (dir. Paweł Miśkiewicz, Polski Theatre Wrocław, at the 41st KST Kalisz Theatre Encounters), and the Little Metal Girl in No Matter How Hard We Tried (dir. Grzegorz Jarzyna, TR Warszawa, at the 9th “Represented Reality” National Festival of Contemporary Drama in Zabrze, the 50th KST Kalisz Theatre Encounters, and the 46th “Counterpoint” Small Theatre Forms Festival).
Popławska has also been a theatre director since 2010. She has directed, among others, Portnoy’s Complaint (Konsekwentny / WARSawy Theatre, Warsaw), The General (IMKA Warsaw, with Marek Kalita), Clara (Powszechny Theatre, Warsaw), A Couple ofPoor, Polish-Speaking Romanians (Ludowy Theatre, Cracow), and A Kitten Peed on My Banner. Chronicles from the Donbas (TR Warszawa).
Popławska has also frequently appeared in cinema and television productions. In the cinema, she has featured in Przemysław Wojcieszek’s Down the Colourful Hill (2004), Ami Drozd’s My Australia (2011), Paweł Sala’s Invisible (2018), and Patryk Vega’s Women of Mafia (2018). She is also known from TV series such as The Border (2014–19), Klangor (2021), and Angel of Death (2020–24).
