The work takes as its point of departure four synthetically generated bells: their attacks, their processes of resonance and decay, and  the various ways in which they coexist with acoustic instruments. Culturally embedded as it is, the bell reminds us of the metaphysical nature of time. Its sound announces an approaching transformation; one that may assume many forms and stir emotions  close to hope as much as to despair. Yet even when it heralds  an inevitable ending, the bell still leaves open the possibility of  a new beginning.
