is a journalist and (occasional) composer from Brookline, Mass. He played the flute while growing up and subsequently studied composition at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Reinhard Febel and at the High School of Music in Basel with Georg Friedrich Haas. After university he worked in the travel industry. In 2015, he joined the editorial staff of VAN Magazine, which covers classical music, and began working as a reporter. Since then, his journalism has also appeared in Slate, Narratively,The Baffer, Atlas Obscura, TAZ am Wochenende, and other publications. In 2020, his forthcoming biography of the composer Gérard Grisey was awarded a Robert B. Silvers Grant for Works in Progress. Brown lives in Berlin.
