HOB-BEATS PERCUSSION GROUP
A percussion ensemble whose core consists of the Pękala Kordylasińska Pękala Duo (Magdalena Kordylasińska and Miłosz Pękala, playing together for more than two decades, formerly as Hob-beats Percussion Duo). Their numerous successes include international competitions (International Percussion Duo Competition in Luxembourg, Universal Marimba Competition, and others), artistic projects (Jarosław Kapuściński’s Enso at Warsaw Autumn, Hob-beats/Percussion Clavier de Lyon in France, How Does the Universe Dance? at Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, Falling Still at Felix Kubin, Hamburg/Elbphilharmonie), recitals and masterclasses (notably in China, Russia, Brazil, France, and Germany). In 2013 Magdalena and Miłosz formed a percussion group for those projects that call for larger performing forces and are therefore unperformable by a duo. For each such project they individually invite eminent percussionists, experts in the fields represented by the group’s original productions. Hob-beats Percussion Group has presented, among others, Sound Splash Play (a Warsaw Autumn commission, enthusiastically received during La Folle Journée festival in 2014), the concert Cage/Reich – Colour/Rhythm (a performance of Steve Reich’s Drumming at the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, 2018), and An Immersive Concert (35th Warsaw Music Encounters, 2021), as well as participating in performances of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Psalms of David, Luigi Dallapiccola’s Canti di Prigionia, and a recording of Zbigniew Penherski’s Incantationi I for the project 100 for 100. Musical Decades of Freedom.
