Schallfeld is an international contemporary music ensemble founded in 2013 by alumni of Klangforum Wien and composition students from the University of Arts in Graz. It currently consists of musicians of eight nationalities. Schallfeld see it as their mission to bring the music of international young composers to Austria and act as an ambassador of new music abroad. In the last few years, Schallfeld have been able to establish themselves on international stages through exciting programming, collective improvisations, innovative use of live electronics, and innovative concert productions (suited to the venue).

Apart from their own concert cycle in Graz, Schallfeld are regular guests at international contemporary music festivals such as Wien Modern, Impuls (Graz), Klangspuren (Schwaz), Bludenzer Tage zeitgemäßer Musik (Bludenz), Signale (Graz), as well as Romaeuropa (Rome), Afekt (Estonia), Poznań Music Spring, EMA (Madrid), Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival (South Korea), and the Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music, In 2016 and 2017 Schallfeld were selected by the Ministry of Foreign A airs as representatives of NASOM (New Austrian Sound of Music), a program designed to promote young Austrian artists internationally. Since 2015 they are a Ulysses-Net ensemble-in-residence (a project inspired by Enlightenment Age artists’ Europe-wide quest for experience that could enrich their art).
