Talea Ensemble has been described as part of the New York ecosystem. Talea has helped introduce NYC audiences to important works of contemporary classics such as Pierre Boulez, Georg Friedrich Haas, Beat Furrer, Olga Neuwirth, Unsuk Chin, and Hans Abrahamsen, and has commissioned notable composers of the following generation, such as Wang Lu, Tyshawn Sorey, Sarah Hennies, Natacha Diels, and Anthony Cheung. The ensemble has premiered more than forty commissions since it was founded in 2008.
Recipient of the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming (2013), the Talea Ensemble aims to champion musical creativity, cultivate curious listeners, and bring visionary new works to life with vibrant performances that remain in the audience’s imagination long after a concert.
Festival engagements have included performances at Lincoln Center Festival, Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt, Wien Modern, Contempuls in Prague, Newport Jazz Festival, Art Summit in Djakarta, Resonant Bodies Festival, TIME:SPANS in New York, Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival, Warsaw Autumn, Vancouver New Music, and Festival Musica. The ensemble has also partnered with institutions across disciplines, such as the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, La Ciudad de las Ideas in Mexico City, and the Storm King Art Center.
Talea has undertaken residencies in music departments around the country to support a new generation of musicians. Residencies include Harvard University, Columbia University, Stanford University, Ithaca College, Cornell University, New York University, and most recently Peabody Institute, Rice University, Hunter College, Brown University, and Queens College.
The ensemble has recorded for Living Artists Label, Gravina Musica, Tzadik, Innova, and New World Records.
