accordionist and bandoneonist, lecturer and Dean of the Fryderyk Chopin University of MTusicsince 2016. He graduated from the same University in 1995 in the class of Jerzy Jurek. Having received a scholarship from the French government, he continued his studies at the Conservatoire Paul Dukas in Paris in the class of Max Bonnay. 

He has a particular affinity with Argentine tango, especially Astor Piazzolla’s tango nuevo performer on the bandoneon. He has introduced this genre onto concert stages, playing solo and with ensembles such as Tangata Quartet and Machina del Tango, of which he was the cofounder and leader. He has appeared with virtuosi such as Ivan Monighetti, Roby Lakatos, Julius Berger, Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, and lately Piotr Pławner. With Rafał Grząka and Grzegorz Palus, he is a member of the Chopin University Accordion Trio, and plays as a bandoneonist with the Con Affetto string quartet. In 2003 he recorded solo and chamber works by Astor Piazzolla for Sony Classical, winning a Polish Fryderyk Award in the Best Chamber Music Album category. He has garnered two other Fryderyk nominations: in 2004 for Live at Bu o (with Tangata Quartet) and in 2005 for Tango My Love (with Krzysztof Jakowicz and Tangata Quartet). Two Fryderyk Awards went to the 100 na 100 album box, where Klaudiusz Baran also features amongst other artists. He has recorded nearly 80 CDs, including much lm music, mostly composed by Michał Lorenc; as a session musician, he also accompanies authors’ songs. In 2010, he was awarded the Gloria Artis Merit for the Arts Bronze Medal. 

Prominent in Klaudiusz Baran’s repertoire is the work of Andrzej Krzanowski: during the 54th Warsaw Autumn, he participated in the performance of Krzanowski’s Symphony no. 1 for five accordions and orchestra (directed by Lucas Vis). He also performs the music of Zbigniew Bargielski, Marcin Błażewicz, Krzesimir Dębski, Aleksander Kościow, Paweł Łukaszewski, and Edward Sielicki. Paweł Sydor’s Equilibrium for accordion and strings, together with Piotr Moss’s Dédicace V for the same ensemble, were premiered at Berlin’s Deutsche Oper for the 80th anniversary of Krzysztof Penderecki. In total, Klaudiusz Baran gave over 50 premieres of Polish composers’ solo, chamber, and orchestral works, the majority of which were dedicated to him.
