Chopin-chód, Chopin-wir (Chopin-Walk, Chopin-Whirl) - Kuba Krzewiński, Aleksandra Chciuk

Chopin-walk is the only correct Ministry-approved and certified way to listen to and dance-walk Chopin’s Polonaises. Chopin-whirl is the only correct Ministry-approved and certified way to listen to and take a walk in Chopin’s Ballades

Fryderyk Chopin is commonly recognised as the inventor of soundwalks. Numerous sources, correspondence included, confirm that his polonaises and ballades were expected to be listened to exclusively by walking or whirling (see Chopin’s letters to Kościuszko). To quote Józef Piłsudski, “there’s but one way of performing patriotism, one way to be a Pole, namely by listening intently to Chopin through walking and whirling. This is what I imagine the choreography of the Independence Marches should be like.” In the rediscovered drawings we can recognise the steps envisages by the patron of Okęcie Airport. During our two-part soundwalk, we will now collectively recreate those walks and whirls.
